People who are dieting sometimes feel guilt or shame if they are not as successful as they’d like. We feel guilt and shame are pretty useless emotions (unless you have committed a crime or something and no one has ever gone to jail for blowing their diet!). In pro football, seldom do you hear of guilt or shame. You hear a lot about pride and respect. In Fantasy Healthball, we focus on pride and respect rather than guilt or shame.
We respect football teams that play hard and do their best. Players take pride in being a professional and working as hard as they can.
Playoff teams are loaded with pride and respect. But also, struggling teams play for it. When a team’s record is 3-12 and they are playing their last game of the season you often hear they are “playing for pride.” The point is, you earn respect by trying your hardest and doing your best, win or lose. And you also can be proud of these things.
So as you try to eat right and exercise and you have a setback, don’t wallow in it and let it bring you down. Re-group and come out fighting. Even the best teams have off games. But they battle back and try harder.
Great health isn’t about guilt and shame; it is about respecting yourself and being proud of your healthy accomplishments.
Certainly, the pro players who play with great heart are deserving of our respect and pride, but so are you when you play with heart and do your best (living healthy, eating right and exercising). With self-respect and pride, you can overcome all challenges and become a champion.
Fantasy Healthball works because it takes things one day at a time and you have a chance to be a winner every week. When facing a daunting challenge, like bringing yourself back from being very overweight or unhealthy, it is important to establish short term goals that are achievable and then work hard towards them. Using Fantasy Healthball, every day is a new day and you have the chance, just like everyone else to live healthfully that day. Put together a string of healthy days and you may end up with a victory that week. Start putting together some victories and the sky is the limit.
When you are starting out, remember to focus on small improvements rather than overall appearance. Pay attention to the changes taking place and listen to your body. In our experience, you start noticing little changes in as little as a week or two. A little extra energy, feeling a little stronger, feeling a little more motivated, is that tricep showing itself a little more? Feeling a bit more alive? Build off of these good feelings rather than focusing on how much more you have to go. You’ll get there.
Consider us part of your fan base cheering you to victory from the sidelines! Let us know how you are doing at our blog. Forget guilt and shame, it is time for some pride and respect!
