1. Because the last time you exercised it was because your 8th grade gym teacher made you run a lap for being late to class.
2. Because you picketed in their parking lot when you heard your local “Krispy Kreme” was closing.
3. Because right now you just feel “fat and happy” but you want to avoid some nasty health impacts as you get older.
4. It has been called “funny,” “entertaining,” “a quick read packed with information you need to know,” and “a great health program for football lovers.” - and those are just the things our mom’s said about it!
5. If you don’t, you’ll have no idea what a “Pantry and Refrigerator Exorcism” is!
6. If you are a “fantasy football widow,” this is a great way for him to get something more – great health – out of all those hours he spends in front of the computer!

Praise for Fantasy Healthball

"Fantasy Healthball is a great program where your love of the NFL pushes you to achieve your health goals.  When I ended my 9-year pro football career, I've had to watch my own weight and Fantasy Healthball inspires me to live a healthy lifestyle.  I've been able to tackle diabetes and win, and you can too."

Jay Leeuwenburg, All-American and NFL lineman and co-author of Yes I Can! Yes You Can!

"You might have noticed that those jeans that used to be your fat jeans are now the jeans that fit you the most comfortably these days. It is official, you need to get out more. But, since you like playing fantasy sports, there is a solution that will make it easy and you will love - Fantasy Healthball.

Derrick Eckardt, Editor-in-Chief, Fantasy Ethos

"Congratulations on what appears to be a winning program and the crucial feedback and support it will provide to participants.  Fantasy Healthball is of great value and presented with a consistently light, fun tone, providing strong encouragement and sufficient detail for change.  There is a lot to like here, and your readers are well served."

Description of the book – Fantasy Healthball – Football Edition

Fantasy Healthball is the health and nutrition program rooted in fantasy sports.  It is part fantasy game, part science, and all attitude. You compete directly with professional football players to meet your health goals. This personal approach is drastically different from other diet plans.  It isn’t about conforming to some new fad like low-carb or high-protein or low-sugar. It’s about you and using your passion for sports to propel you to achieve your personal health goals.

Starting as a popular website (FantasyHealthball.com) launched at the halftime of 2008’s Super Bowl XLII, Fantasy Healthball is now available in convenient book form!  Fantasy Healthball turns passion for football into passion for great health and turns spectators into active players.  You’ll be actively engaged in the pro football game, without having to worry about a 300-pound linebacker planting you in the artificial turf!

All of the great things about fantasy football combine to motivate and push you to improve your daily health challenges – and your long term health. By selecting one of our competition methods, the “on the field” actions of pro football players will relate directly to your healthy actions throughout the week. You’ll earn “Healthpoints” for executing good decisions just like the pros earn points for executing a successful scoring play. The weekly result will be a win or a loss as you attempt to have a good season and even make the playoffs! When it is the off-season, you can play a health-only (no fantasy football) game called Training Camp against your friends, family, or yourself.

Fantasy Healthball combines no-nonsense “Dr. Oz sort of health advice” wrapped neatly in a fantasy sports package built on competition and fun. It is like a powerful combination of Nutrition for Dummies, Dieting for Dummies, Eat This Not That! Supermarket Survival Guide, and your favorite fantasy sports website! You’ll learn about calories, weight loss, eating strategies, exercise, and even how to perform a “Pantry and Refrigerator Exorcism!”

Ten Excerpts from the book, Fantasy Healthball:

  • These days, Americans don’t need to be told a side of steamed vegetables is healthier for us than a side of super-sized fries.  We know that.  But what we do need is to find something to believe in that will inspire us to be healthy.  And that inspiration can be found in fantasy sports!
  • Allow us a quick word about the word – diet.  The word “diet” in our society usually yields about as many happy feelings as “root canal,” “tax audit,” or “sorry I backed over your bicycle, Timmy.”  But in this book we use it as an umbrella term to mean a healthy diet; a healthy eating pattern.  Dieting in our culture often implies starving yourself.  Eating right isn’t about starving yourself.  You don’t want to do something unhealthy for your body (starving it) in an attempt to make it healthy.
  • Ever feel guilty watching football games?  Not anymore, now it is part of your health and exercise routine!  In fact, while watching football you will feel more engaged because you have a lot riding on the game.  You have something way more important than $5 or $50 on the game.  You have the most valuable possession of all - your long-term health.
  • The shelves at your local bookstore are filled with diet books authored by MDs.  We don’t think Dr. Atkins has much more to offer you than Dr. Doogie Howser or Dr. Marcus Welby for that matter.  With all due respect to the medical profession, most seem like over-hyped fads to us.  Okay, maybe we are a little cynical but yesterday’s best selling diet often seems to be debunked tomorrow.  What’s more, they are starting to sound like vacation destinations – the “South Beach Diet,” the “Sonoma Diet.”  Are we sweating it off at the gym or taking a mud bath with a glass of Zinfandel?
  • Dieting in our culture often implies starving yourself.  Eating right isn’t about starving yourself.  You don’t want to do something unhealthy for your body (starving it) in an attempt to make it healthy.  It just doesn’t make logical sense.  We think starving yourself is an over-reaction to the desire to lose weight.  It makes about as much sense as not exercising for a year and then running a marathon to make up for it.  You want moderation and good choices over the long run, not intermittent over-reactions.
  • You’ve heard the advice on breakfast. It is not too complicated. It goes like this: don’t skip breakfast! But for heaven’s sake, that doesn’t give you carte blanche to order the Hungry Man Mega-Breakfast at your local greasy spoon. Eating a healthy breakfast is like running the opening kick-off back 70 yards to your opponent’s 30-yard line. A great start and everything is a little easier after that.
  • The leader of the world, most powerful politician on the planet, works out 45-90 minutes a day.  And if he can fit in 45 minutes on the elliptical machine while brokering hundreds of billions of dollars in stimulus packages, why the heck can’t you?  We won’t be surprised if we see a CNN report where our President is spotting the bench press for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.  Spotting for someone builds a trust and brotherhood/sisterhood that can’t be replicated at some stuffy peace conference!  So, if Obama can find the time, so can you, remember, “Yes You Can!”
  • Exercising and eating right?  You’ll score and score again.  Supersizing those fries and laying on the couch?  You are likely to get pounded by your opponent.  Just like in the professional league, if you make smart choices and play hard, you are likely to come up with the win.  Show a lack of effort and make poor choices and you will likely tally a loss.
  • It’s simply not enough to say we are going to just do better drinking enough water each week, when that water is chasing a double cheeseburger and fries every day for lunch.  To achieve the health goals we desire, it is necessary for us to provide focus on multiple areas of our life simultaneously.  Thus, the requirement to pursue seven challenges each week pushes us to consider each of these important goals as they are areas of our life we are forced to make decisions on every day.
  • People who are dieting sometimes feel guilt or shame if they are not as successful as they’d like.  We feel guilt and shame are pretty useless emotions (unless you have committed a crime or something but no one has ever gone to jail for blowing their diet!).  In pro football, seldom do you hear of guilt or shame.  You hear a lot about pride and respect.  In Fantasy Healthball, we focus on pride and respect rather than guilt or shame.

If you like what you see on this website, you’ll help us advance the ball if you tell some friends about us.  As they used to say over at Faberge Organics shampoo, “If you tell two friends, they’ll tell two friends, and so on and so on and so on.”
