The word “diet” in our society usually yields about as many happy feelings as “root canal,” “tax audit,” or “sorry I backed over your bicycle, Timmy.” Is it even possible to make a diet fun and exciting? Jim Ballard and Jeff Hagen have done just that with their book “Fantasy Healthball: The Fantasy Sports Diet and Exercise Book Where You Compete Against NFL Players.”
The book turns passion for football into passion for great health and turns spectators into active players.
There are now more overweight and obese Americans then ever – two out of every three! The number gets worse each year and obesity leads to diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and premature death. In 2008, Americans don’t need to be told a side of steamed vegetables is healthier for them than a side of super-sized fries. But what they do need is to find something to believe in that will inspire them to be healthy. And that inspiration can be found in fantasy sports!
About 15 million Americans now rabidly play fantasy football. The Fantasy Sports Trade Association reports that the number of players has grown 7-10 percent a year for the past three years. Fantasy football is the latest American boom industry with features on radio, television, and every mainstream publication from Sports Illustrated to Christianity Today. Most fantasy players set up leagues on websites run by the likes of Yahoo!, Walt Disney’s ESPN, CBS, and Fox.
Fantasy Healthball is the health and nutrition program rooted in fantasy sports. It is part fantasy game, part science, and all attitude. Readers compete directly with the NFL pros. This personal approach is radically different from other diet and exercise plans. It isn’t about conforming to some new fad like low-carb or high-protein or low-sugar. It is about readers and using their passion for sports to propel them to achieve their personal health goals.
By using a fantasy football-type scoring system, readers will take on NFL players in a head to head match-up for victory. The “on the field” actions of NFL players will relate directly to the readers’ healthy actions throughout the week. Readers will earn “Healthpoints” for executing good decisions just like the pros earn points for executing a successful scoring play.
The weekly result will be a win or a loss as readers attempt to have a good season and even make the playoffs!
Fantasy Healthball teaches readers about the medically accepted basics of healthy diet, nutrition, and exercise in an entertaining and humorous way. Readers will learn about calories, weight loss, nutrients, food groups, eating strategies, how to exercise, and even how to perform a “Pantry and Refrigerator Exorcism!”
The book is loaded with information not found on this website. Its chapters are filled with specific details, facts, humor, and real-life examples based on the Fantasy Healthball program. Its helpful appendices give you everything you need to get started from the Fantasy Healthball “Daily Challenge Team Roster Scorecard,” to inspirational quotes, to game-day recipes. Fantasy Healthball is the first diet and exercise program that is fun and exciting as you take on the NFL’s best in order to be your best.
And what’s more, you can even play Fantasy Healthball in the off-season. We call it, “Fantasy Healthball Training Camp.” Click on Start Playing to learn how to play Training Camp or the full game.
